Everything about the best sunscreen for your protection

My baby will be 16 days old tomorrow and I was wondering if it'd be a good or bad idea to take him to the 4th of July parade tomorrow. My husband and I try to go every year and we really wanna take him. I bought some baby sunscreen but everything I've read says not to use it on a baby who's so young. Any helpful hints/suggestions would be much appreciated!

Sure, take the baby! Just don't let a bunch of strangers hold/touch him.

I took my son out shopping at 2 days old.
I also took him on a 3 1/2 hour road trip when he was 3 weeks old; and stayed out of town for 3 days with him (in a Hotel.)

Babies aren't that fragile; you just shouldn't let a bunch of strangers hold or touch him.

I rested for 4 weeks until I started venturing out..but to each its own. Could be pretty loud is all I would say…

Yes, just keep baby out of direct sunlight, and stay kind of away from the crowd so baby doesn't get overstimulated or possibly even hurt in the action.

I would. The fresh air is good for him. Just keep him in a carrier so no one tries to hold him and touch him.

I live in Florida and the no sunscreen under 6 months rule doesn't apply here. Some is better than none, just test a small area of skin before you coat him with it.

There are these baby wraps, "The Moby Wrap" that are UVRay protected. They also are much more comfortable than the baby bjorn or any carrier I've ever tried.

I walk the beach every morning with my 3 month old in the wrap and it protects her from the sun.

Sure, why not! However, you might want to see about getting an outfit that has SPF in it rather than use the sunscreen. If you cannot do this then just cover the baby up (perhaps in a sleeper) and have him wear a hat.

    Best of luck

Maybe instead of the sunscreen you could use a stroller with a shade and put a hat on him…just keep him in the shade. Also make sure to take a bottle of water for him (a baby bottle!). :) If there are very loud noises he may get startled, but then again, he might just sleep through it all.

I wouldn't use the sunscreen because he is definately too young. At only 4 weeks, it likely upset him with all those people. At this point he should be out of the house much more than doctor's appt or controlled situations. This is your chance to be over protecive, so be it. The baby isn't going to get anything out of it anyway.

As long as there is no loud firetrucks like that. A cradle sling would work best in this type of situation. Sunscreen is for babies 6 months + just for your knowledge.

I think the day out would be great for you both! I took mine out the day after we got home, I love showing babies off :D But I agree with everyone dont let ppl touch him and try not to let any outside smoke around him. The day will be nice but I do think imo the fireworks part of it might be too loud and he might hate that. Have a great fun day and Congrats!

Sure I say take your baby! Have you ever heard of babywearing? That was the only way to travel with my daughter at that age. If you purchased a wrap like a Moby, your baby would be protected from the sun and he would be close enough to you that you could cover his little ears if the parade got too loud.
Please do not put sunblock on your baby at this age though, it is very unhealthy.

Keep him out of the sun and close to you. One easy way is to put him in a sling or front carrier. Another easy way is to put the infant carseat in the stroller and put both shades on so he's out of the sun. I would also put a wide-brimmed hat on him so hes protected

I personally wouldn't … what a way to expose him to the world! It would probably be awfully loud and warm. Also, you're right .. I remember reading you're not supposed to use sunscreen until ~6 mos, so – if you do go – just keep him in the shade/shield him from the sun. Happy 4th!

Well, I took my baby out 2 days after she was born and the only problem I would see with it is that maybe it would be too loud..or too hot?… I guess you could be the judge of that though, just watch how he reacts and who knows he may not even care.

Babywearing is the way to go. It will be easy to keep your little one close to you where you can keep him shielded from the sun and quickly respond to his needs. A Moby Wrap is a great choice, but some people may find it to heavy for Florida. You can also try Gypsy Mama Wraps which are a lighter weight fabric.
