Babies skin is obviously more sensitive than that of adults.. especially when it comes to sun exposure! Although it is important that you use sunscreen on your baby, it is also necessary that you pay attention to the ingredients in the products you are slathering all over your children. Many ingredients in mass market sunscreens (phthalates, parabens, synthetic fragrances) can irritate children's skin and have even been linked to cancer. I'd recommends using an all natural sunscreen on your baby, one that I've recently began using is TruKid. Their products have no toxic ingredients and are scented with only essential oils.
References :
www.trukid.com

I put sunscreen on my 16 month daughter daily. In the morning once she is dressed for the day, and after her nap.
We go in and out most of the day, that way she has some on. If we are out in water, she gets lathered up every hour.
References :
If you child is going to be in the sun, please use sunscreen and common sense. My baby is five months, and doc told us that sunscreen isn't reccomended for babies under five months, but if they were going to be in the sun, then use it. It's better to have baby protected, sun burns on infants are horrible. I started using it at four months and she does great, same with bug repellent, I just make sure and bathe her that night.
References :
I sure don't. I don't let the sun beat down on him, not even in his stroller walking into a store.
References :
...Wear Sunscreen?
Now! For years we've heard babies younger than 6 months shouldn't wear sunscreen: they should just be kept out of the sun. Which is, of course, unrealistic. The AAP recently changed that stance and now recommends sunscreen for tots of all ages as there hasn't been any evidence of negative long-term effects on infants younger than 6 months using it. Look for a baby formulation that has the words "broad spectrum" on the label, meaning it protects from UVA and UVB rays. And remember that sunscreen isn't a license to keep your baby on the beach for hours on end. Put a sunhat on her, seek shade, and use common sense.
References :
parenting.com

Coppertone makes sunscreen lotion called 'water babies'. You apply a thin amount of creme to the exposed areas of the baby and be careful.
You need to reapply every couple hours and still keep the baby out of direct sunlight as much as possible.
Consider that you don't have sun glasses on the baby and the baby won't want the sun in his/her eyes.
Ask your doctor for any advice and samples of sun screens if they are available.
If you have a portable cabana this is a good idea. Still keep a close watch on your baby as they can still get too much sun, dehydrated, overheated.
Make sure you have fluids constantly available if your baby is outside in the heat.
References :
That depends. If we're going for a walk and I know he'll be in his stroller (shaded, with a blanket if needed), then I don't. Especially because I want to make sure he gets some vitamin D. Also, if we go to the park, I make sure he's not in the sun for more than 10 minutes or so, then we sit in the shade.

Of course, if we're going to be outside for any extended period of time, I put sunscreen on him. But I try to limit his sunlight exposure because sunscreen REALLY irritates his skin. I'd rather just stay in the shade, but obviously that's not always possible.

I'm pretty careful, because my sister had skin cancer at age 26 (she's fine now).
