Everything about the best sunscreen for your protection

I've read about all the hype, that it should not have certain chemicals, that it should have titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, etc. But can you recommend to me some brands. The only great one I keep hearing about is California Baby but I can't find it anywhere. What are some good baby sunscreens? Brands please. And any other advice about having toddler out in sun. I want to put her in the kiddie pool at our home for a little while.

Yeah, I tried finding California Baby too and couldn't. I mean, you can order it online from their website but it's really expensive (and then you add shipping!).
We use Blue Lizard Australian Sunscream (yes, sunscream – it's spelled that way on the package) for Baby. It costs around $10.00 and you can get it in some grocery stores & pharmacies (like CVS & Walgreens). It has a high UVA/UVB rating and is chemical and fragrance free. My boy is fair skinned and we haven't had any problems with this at all.
You can check out this website (if you haven't seen it already) to research some products: http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/
We also use sun protective clothing when he's in the sun or in the pool (a swim shirt, hat & glasses). Target & Babies R Us carries some reasonably priced stuff.

Banana boat has a sunscreen for toddlers. I think she'll be okay as long as you're not outside for an extended amount of time.

I use Boots Soltan Kids Spray. It is factor 50 and has a 5 star UVA rating (which is actually more important than the factor). The spray with the blue top also has a insect repellent added to it. While my son has been in the garden over the last couple of days, I have applied it every couple of hours and he has had no sunburn.
My son has also been in the paddling pool and all I have done is left an old pair of shorts and a t shirt on him so that he only has minimal skin showing.

I use coppertone water babies spray lotion on mine. It's spf 50 and very easy to apply because it's a spray. She's never burned and we've stayed outside in the pool all day. I've used it on myself too and not burned.

Try Sun E45, which I think should be available in the US. It is designed for people with allergies, like exzema, and works by forming a reflective layer on the skin – I think it is zinc oxide. Other advice – put the pool in the shade or use a HUGE umbrella. Also t shirt and hat (the usual, really). Plenty of drinks and not too long out in the sun. Have fun!

The best sunscreen in the whole world is Neutrogena. It goes up to SPF 85 & it works.
Even the SPF 70 spray works wonderfully. I sprayed it on, went to the beach for 5 hours and I wasn't sunburnt.

My 5 year old cousin has red hair and pale skin. She used it for the same amount of time and she didn't get sunburn. It doesn't have any harmful chemicals.

    Trust Me. It's AMAZING.

Try to avoid the spray on sunscreens as they can easily get into eyes and breathed in. Also you really can't control how much goes where or avoid specific areas.

I use Water Babies sunscreens on my white blonde, blue eyed, deathly pale son. SPF 60 and waterproof.

Don't be foolled by the words waterproof and water resistant. They both wash and sweat off just at different rates. Remember to reapply often (3-4 hour time intervals.)

Once your child is over 6 months old you can use sunscreen. I started at birth with baby lotion so that my son was used to my rubbing lotion in before I started with the sun screen. This met with great success, he now carries the bottle to me every morning so I can apply it.

I recommend that you apply a small amount of lotion to the back of your hand and then apply it to your child using your fingers of your other hand. This way you don't apply too much. Avoid the eyes and mouth areas as well as the hands are that will give sweat less chance of getting the lotion into little eyes and they don't suck the lotion off their hands or accidentally eat it off while eating.

Don't forget to apply about an inch higher then the bottom of shorts, shirt sleeves and such. The back of the neck also.

Do try to look for swimwear that's out right now that has an SPF value. I've even seen reasonably prices stuff at Zellers this year. The myth that a t-shirt stops sun is just that a myth. Though there are some materials out on the market now that does but they are high tech and the prices are finally coming down on them. These materials have been worn for years by surfers and life guard types because it's light, breathable and means they don't have to use as much sunscreen.
